The Castilla y León – Villa de El Espinar Open 2018 has reached the quarterfinals in its female tables after a day in which the favorites players have won its matches. Both Paula Badosa, first favorite of the women’s section, and Adrián Menéndez, second of the men’s and top theoretical favorite after the elimination of Stakhovskiy, have solved their second-round without problems.
Menéndez beat the Turkish Cem Ilkel 6-0 and 6-2 in a game whose result describes his superiority and allows him to reserve his strength for the final rounds in an intense heat day. Nor will he have to use them in the doubles tournament as his teammate Sergiy Stakhovskiy has left the competition alleging an injury to the twin.
Paula Badosa also overcame with authority her match against Olga Parrés, resolved by 6-2 and 6-3. She remains in the doubles table with Montserrat González in the quarterfinals, although the Copa Federation player has lost in the individual tournament of Yvonne Cavallé-Reimers, who achieved a good victory by 6-4 and 6-4 against a rival 90 places above in the WTA. Paula and Yvonne will be met in the quarterfinals with Cristina Bucsa, who beat Ainhoa Atucha 6-1 and 7-5 and ties her seventh consecutive win, counting her win last week in Oporto. Sensational the victory of Eva Guerrero against the argentinian Paula Ormaechea, who won in three sets in more than three and a half hours of the match.
In the men’s box, next to Menéndez will be Andrés Artuñedo, who in the last match at El Espinar beat the Austrian Neuchrist. He retired when the score was 6-1 and 5-2 for the tennis player of Castellón. Luca Vanni, Menéndez’s third favorite and theoretical rival, overcame a difficult game against compatriot Baldi, who had a break advantage in the last set.
